Welcome to Slim Fit Holsters. My name is James Mislow, CEO and founder of Slim Fit Holsters. This is the story of Slim Fit Holsters origin and how it began and grew into one of the most trusted names in custom Kydex concealed carry holsters.
I started Slim Fit Holsters in 2016 when a simple frustration turned into a lifelong mission to create high quality holsters that provide both comfort and reliability. The origin of Slim Fit Holsters began when I purchased a cheap holster online that did not fit my pistol. Frustrated, I decided to make my own custom Kydex holster. I heated a sheet of Kydex in my kitchen oven and tried to mold it around my firearm. The first attempt wasn’t perfect, but it sparked the passion that became Slim Fit Holsters.
With help from my friend Chris Oropeza, I set up a small workshop in the back of his house. That little shed became the first home of Slim Fit Holsters, marking a significant point in its origin.
Where My Passion Comes From – Slim Fit Holsters Origins
I was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. My father, John, owned a plumbing company, and I grew up working with him in the hot Florida sun. On our days off, we went shooting together using his father’s old .22 rifle. That rifle and those moments shaped the foundation of Slim Fit Holsters and my passion for firearms.
My mother, Patty, encouraged me to be creative and adventurous. Even during her battle with cancer in 2017, she pushed me to chase my dream. Her words, “James, I just want you to be happy and follow your dreams,” continue to guide Slim Fit Holsters to this day, keeping its origin story vibrant.
Perfecting the Craft of Concealed Carry Holsters
Over the years, I refined my holster designs, tested new ideas, and discarded the ones that didn’t meet the Slim Fit Holsters standard. My goal was always the same: make slim, comfortable concealed carry holsters that shooters could rely on under stress.
In 2017, I began selling Slim Fit Holsters at the Colorado Tanner Gun Show. Customers brought their pistols directly to my table, and I would custom-fit holsters on the spot. When the pandemic hit in 2020, I expected business to slow down, but instead, online orders poured in.
Demand grew, and I brought on an apprentice, Keith Dossett, who became a vital part of the Slim Fit Holsters team, further advancing the origin story.
From Backyard Shed to Professional Shop
By 2022, Slim Fit Holsters had expanded enough to leave the backyard shed and move into a professional workshop. We upgraded from homemade presses to precision vacuum forming and split molds, giving Slim Fit Holsters the durability, comfort, and definition customers appreciate today.
