The Real Danger of Deep Concealment Holsters

The Real Danger of Deep Concealment Holsters

When it comes to concealed carry, most people think comfort and concealment are all that matter. But there’s one crucial detail most overlook—ride height—and getting it wrong can cost you when it matters most.

At Slim Fit Holsters, we design all of our IWB and AIWB holsters to ride high enough so you can get a full firing grip without your knuckles crashing into your belt. A good draw has to be consistent and repeatable. That means no digging, no adjusting, and no hesitation.

“Deep concealment” holsters are often marketed as more comfortable—but comfort at the cost of access is a dangerous tradeoff. These holsters sit too low inside your waistband, burying the grip and making it harder to draw quickly. They don’t improve concealment or reduce printing. They just make your firearm harder to reach when seconds count.

Real concealment comes from smart positioning—not depth. That’s why we use a Modwing: an L-shaped molded piece that pushes the grip inward against your body by applying pressure at the belt line. We pair it with a rubber RCS wedge at the back of the holster near the muzzle. This shifts the lower end of the holster out slightly and pulls the top of the slide inward, creating a flatter and tighter fit to your body.

A proper ride height ensures you can grip and draw your pistol the same way, every time. No guesswork. No wasted motion. And that’s critical—because if you ever need to use your firearm, the situation will be fast, violent, and close. Your draw needs to be automatic. Drawing your pistol should feel as natural as reaching for a doorknob—you don’t think about it, your hand just finds it.

Fine-Tuning with TacWare Clips

To further customize your experience, our holsters come equipped with TacWare clips. These clips are injection-molded for durability and a firm hold. They strike the perfect balance between rigidity and flexibility, making it easy to snap them over your belt. They’re tough yet have a slight give, ensuring a secure fit that’s still easy to put on or remove.

With five-hole placements, you can adjust the ride height to suit your preference, whether you want it higher or lower. The standard configuration provides a comfortable gap between the grip and your belt line, ensuring a smooth, knuckle-free draw every single time.

Ride height isn’t just a detail—it’s a cornerstone of your concealed carry setup. Don’t sacrifice function for feel. Your holster should work with your body, not against it.
